Turbo the Tortoise

Turbo, an African spurred tortoise, recently escaped from his home in south central Houston. His frantic owner thought he had been stolen and filed a police report with HPD. The next day, a neighbor saw Turbo and called police to report a very large tortoise walking in the area. Officers tracked down the tortoise and realized it was Turbo.  Pictured here are South Central Patrol Officers Traconis (next to Turbo), Tse and Kang (in the background). They were able to reunite Turbo with his ecstatic owner.

This goes on record for the slowest police chase we’ve ever encountered!

Cadet Cultural Diversity Bus Tour

HPD Chief Charles McClelland announced back in July that all future cadet classes would participate in a bus tour that sees them go across Houston to learn about the various communities and cultures they will soon be charged with protecting and serving.
As part of the most recent Cultural Diversity Bus Tour, cadets went to the Vietnamese Civic Center and listened to local attorney Steven Dieu and Executive Director of VN Teamwork, Inc Mike Nguyen speak about Vietnamese History and the transitioning of the Vietnamese American into the U.S.

The Cultural Diversity Bus Tour is the latest in HPD’s long-standing commitment to community policing.
