Recently, Sergeant Semein was dispatched to a ‘Silent 911/ Coin Phone’ call. Sergeant Semein arrived at the location and learned that the person who called was a truck driver making a delivery to a restaurant and had just been held up at gunpoint. The victim had been unloading his truck when the female robbery suspect approached him with a gun pointed at him and told him to “stay still.” The victim got scared and ran away. As he ran away, he heard the click of the gun.
The suspect ran from the location without obtaining any of the victim’s property. Sergeant Semein was able to get a description of the suspect and immediately began searching the area. Sgt. Semein located the suspect walking along the street just around the corner from where the robbery took place. Knowing that the suspect was possibly armed, Sergeant Semein displayed his duty weapon and ordered her to raise her hands. The suspect was then taken into custody without incident. Sergeant Semein located a semi-automatic pistol with four rounds in the magazine and one round jammed in the chamber, indicating that the suspect had indeed attempted to shoot the victim. An additional thirteen rounds of ammunition were recovered from the suspect’s backpack. The suspect was arrested and charged with Aggravated Robbery with a Deadly Weapon.
Sergeant Semein’s actions in this incident were indispensable in capturing a dangerous robbery suspect who, except for the malfunction of her weapon, may have also committed a murder of an innocent victim. Moreover, by his actions Sergeant Semein displayed a diligent work ethic that sets the example for officers under his command and throughout the department.
Sergeant Semein’s conduct and character command the respect of his officers, reflect well on the Houston Police Department and serve the citizens of Houston well. HPD would like to commend him for a job well done.
