Are you ready?

Last week, Academy Class 209 took its initial Physical Fitness Training Assessment. It was not pretty. To quote an old Clint Eastwood movie it was "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly." If you are not in shape when you begin the academy (which I highly suggest that you are) you will be by the time you finish the academy. Good luck class 209, it only gets hotter in Houston as summer has just begun.

i can not wait till its my turn im getting in shape this is what im supposed to do i can feel it its going to be tough but i like challenges i did the fire academy and went through all 9 months of hell and unfortunately i was too out of shape to complete my final four burns but getting dropped made me realize what im supposed to do that is to become a police officer i straongley dislike bad people and once i get out there its gonna suck for them god bless

Why would you show up out of shape in the first place? People are going to be depending on these future Police Officers. If I ran the program and you showed up out of shape, you would get dropped on the spot. This shows your lack of dedication and commitment to the difficult job you are going for.

I'm in 209 and I made the effort to be in shape before the academy and I'm very thankful I did. Lots of runs and lots of pushups. Many are struggling, but us who are in better shape will pull them up.

Get Motivate 209! More cadets fell out of formation run on Tues than the total that fell the PT test. I'm not in the best shape and I'm not the smallest cadet but I'm not giving up for no one. I passed PT and I'm pumped to be here. We have alot of work as a class but trust and believe we will get there. Or we can do push ups before every break. Our Choice!!

These pictures are pretty much the same with every class on their first day of PT evaluation. Class 209 WILL get in shape and will prevail after six months of training. You will look back at this slide show and say "that was then and this is now" you will be stronger and quicker than you have ever been before. We are proud of you 209. Be strong! You will get through this.

As a former cadet, I agree with Officer McCoy. It helps if you are in shape. You can see the ones that are in shape and the ones who are struggling in the slide show. If you are not in shape, you will be, I promise. 209, we have all been there. This is what makes the badge so much more special when you finally get it pinned on your chest after six months. You will be so proud! Great blog sir. Your blog was the main reason I picked HPD!

Speaking from a proud Class 209 cadet... these pictures were taken right AFTER our PT test while we were doing pushups, leg lifts, and the like on a boiling track. Personally, although it was brutal, I thought it was a great way to break us in! Most cadets who did not pass the PT test only failed one of the five elements, so let's not be too hard on them. Every cadet gave it their ALL and that's what matters. I worked out hard for 6 months before the academy and am glad I did. It made all the difference on Thursday. Class 209 is full of confident, smart, strong and dedicated men and women who will be ready to hit the streets of Houston come December 1st! We will make you proud!!
