Cop-Cabs!

HPD has joined with the Texas Department of Transportation in their campaign for everyone to "Choose Your Ride". To promote this initiative, we have allowed TxDOT to wrap the rear of some police vehicles to look like Yellow Cabs making them Cop-Cabs. Reminding drivers to make the right choice, if you have been drinking take a cab home- instead of a police car. Look for these "Reminder Cars" throughout the city!

Harris County has the highest per capita death rate due to drinking and driving in the country. Over 1,600 deaths in 2008. Do the math: How many families are affected each week...

That doesn't include injuries that have changed lives forever, including HPD Officer Lloys Morisson, struck by two drunk drivers while inspecting a drunk driving incident this past Labor Day weekend.

Drinking and driving is a crime. Its not a tickable offense, its not wrong if you just don't get caught; it is a crime.

Take the time to care, and do what you can to eradiate drinking and driving.

I live in Austin and APD is doing this too. I think it's a pretty cool idea.

To clarify: That is over 1,600 deaths in Texas in 2008, and includes all alcohol and drug impaired crashes resulting in death.
