Class 207 Orientation

Click Play Above

Academy Class 207 began their new career on Monday last week. 83 individuals (largest class to start an academy to date) began a quest to become one. One big family. Once they complete the six months of training they will hit the streets to begin again. To begin making a difference in their community. Stay strong 207, stay focused 207 and stay true 207. Six months from now you will look back at this slide show and ask yourself..."what happened to my hair?"

I noticed that some of the cadets are wearing HPD Pins on their collar and some are not. Does that signify a certain credential or does everyone get them at orientation and those are film clips from different parts of the day?

It was the first day of class. Some were notified at the last minute after others had pulled out and did not have time to retrieve the entire uniform.

any word on #208? is it still slated for March 2010, or is HPD working to secure funding?

Not yet...However, I encourage you to apply.

I remember thinking the academy was going to last forever in my first couple of weeks. Then, all of a sudden, it went by in what now seems like a flash of time. Keep a positive attitude 207 and good luck! We look forward to seeing you out here (it's a blast!)

As for my hair Officer McCoy, it's finally growing back!

Officer Mc.Coy, I think recruiting division gave you gray hair...

We have been busy in Recruiting the last few years, that's for sure.

Officer Mc.Coy, this is off the subject if you don't mind. Clairol, Revlon, L'Oreal, and will take the gray out. An advise from my cadet sister and she thinks that you're totally hot. I told her, give me a break.

I never realized that the comment about hair would cause such a stir...

Officer McCoy,so you have the young cadet ladies thinking you are a hottie! You go Officer McCoy!

I believe that they mean that the long sleeve shirt in my picture makes me hot during the summer months. ;)

I am ready for some rain people!

Great video. By the way, I am following you on twitter now. I am hoping to be notified right away if any new classes start. Thanks for the blog. I love the funny comments by everyone regarding hair...This is a really fun and unique way to connect with HPD. Please keep it up!

Hey Anonymous:

The academy staff leave you well prepared for TCLEOSE (the state exam) and gives you all the tools you need to do well on it.

I wouldn't start sweating it at all until after skills (trying to memorize what the state requires and what HPD requires at the same time will probably only confuse you). As for preparing for it - there really are no shortcuts. You just have to spend as much time on it as you can and take every review, lab, and study guide they give you.

Good luck with it.. and if you prepared - nothing to be nervous about!

Got a break from class, and heard the commotion about the hair comments. Had to see what's going on. Just read the hair comments. Sorry everyone, my brother, he is such a smart aleck in a big way. Anyhow, I do think men with gray are hot. The gray adds maturity and character to men, and this aids to officers on the street as well. Most of the time, men do look great as they get older with gray hair. Thanks for the gray hair Officer McCoy. I have to get back to class now.
