Memorial Day commemorates U.S. men and women who perished while in military service to their country. First enacted to honor Union soldiers of the American Civil War, it was expanded after World War I to include casualties of any war or military action.
HPD has many veterans current and past, who have served throughout history, both country and city. We salute you all.

Beautiful. Thank you Officer McCoy.
Seeing the thousands of crosses and headstones says it all. Killed in the line of duty or not, these veterans served our country with honor and respect. Thank you for helping remind us that they were here. Great blog, Officer McCoy.
Never, ever forget that freedom is not, and never has been, nor ever will be, free. Thanks to every man and woman who has honorably worn an American military uniform. Precious personal and religious freedoms are ours to enjoy because so many have given their all. God bless them and may God continue to bless the United States of America.
From a proud mom of a daughter who served in the U.S. Air Force and who continues to serve the citizens of Houston (HPD).
Thanks for the nice post, Officer McCoy. Today is a special day and I can't help but think of all of the heroes that gave their tomorrow's for our today's. Semper Fi to all of my fellow Marines out there! I can hardly wait for class 207 to crank up!!
On this Memorial Day, we think about those who gave their lives so you and I can live the freedom some take for granted. As a veteran myself, I served my country with pride. There are many veteran's that are part of the HPD team. With 2 year's of active duty, you too can serve our Great City by joining the the Houston Police Department. Apply today to become one of Houston's finest.
